Key Attendees: MP Abdul Rahman Shahedani, Member of Senate Sayed Asadullah, Provincial Councilor Haidar Ali Ahmadi, Chief of Human Rights Department Rohullah Frogh, Director of Information and Culture Kabir Dadras and Member of Civil Society Sayed Nasir Arafat.
AYNO Provincial chapter in Bamyan province held its town hall meeting in Norband Qala Hotel and Restaurant on 29th.05.2013 where 200 people including 40 women, government officials, and influential elders, and teachers, members of civil society, youths and students participated to discuss major concerns of the people which were: 1-Increase in number of drug addicts, Agricultural challenges.
The meeting began at 10:00 by the recitation of holy Quran by Mr. Ali Azamat one of the participants and then Mr. Enayatullah AYNSO PC welcomed all the participants and gave 15 minutes briefing of the program as well as its purpose. Mr. Enayat also discussed AYNSO activities throughout the country that has been carried out in the past few years and benefits to the society and reach out to their concerns.
Then Mr. Reza Karmani the admin director of counter narcotic department talked about the activities and programs of counter narcotic department in Bamyan province. In a radio interview with Voice of America, the admin director of counter narcotic department had said that there are over 50000 drug addicts in Bamyan province, although there is very less cultivation of poppy in this province.
Mr. Karmani also termed weak enforcement of police law and rules as one of the main factors to increasing numbers of drug addicts in this province.
Later on, MP Mr. Shahedani addressed to audience regarding this challenge and said that he will point out this issue in Lower House of the parliament meeting through communication with governor’s office.
And then Mr. Abdul Latif Roshan the advisor for agriculture department addressed audience about the agricultural programs that would take place in Bamyan province. He said that the agriculture department has considered building 1100 potato storages, distributing seeds to farmers, and tractors in order to enable farmers for better agriculture crops. He was asked questions by audience regarding development plans for agriculture department, and Mr. Roshan said that in next 4 months they will establish irrigation system for agricultural fields in order to have maximum crops, due to the fact that Bamyan province produces the highest percentage of potato in the country.
And finally sayed Asadullah Jafari representative of agriculture department said that the agriculture department has worked hard in order to meet the requirements of people, but still there are areas of improvements that this department will soon work on training and seminar workshop in order to increase the work level of agriculture employees.
All the participants thanked AYNSO for this effective program, and requested that it shouldn’t be the last meeting; on the other hand a committee to follow these promises should be assigned so that the people can trust their government.
The meeting finally ended at 3:45 after the participants were served lunch and transportation fares were paid to them.
